Last night Doug Ford won re-election for a third term.
The Progressive Conservatives of Ontario leader has achieved a third majority government (elections in 2018, 2022 and now 2025).
As Ontario Premier, Ford will be leading his third government with a four-year mandate that reaches beyond Trump’s term of office.

Ford won with 80 seats of the 124 seats in the Ontario legislature; the NDP will be the Official Opposition with 27 seats. The Liberals brought themselves to official party status with 14 seats. The Greens held at two seats. There is one Independent.
Ford is currently the Chair of the Council of the Federation (Canada’s Premiers).
Taking on Trump:
Ford wanted to give voters a choice to choose which Ontario leader would take on US President Trump for the next four years.
Ontario may have to take some tough decisions in the next couple of years, and now Ford can say he has the mandate to do so.
Ontario is the economic engine of this country with strength in manufacturing, natural resources and energy.
Trudeau’s statement:
Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office said Trudeau spoke with Ford to congratulate him on his re-election and discuss shared priorities.
Prime Minister Trudeau commended Premier Ford’s commitment to contributing to a Team Canada approach to the Canada-U.S. relationship.
The two leaders reiterated their desire to stand up for and protect Canadian interests.
“They discussed the ongoing threat of unjustified U.S. tariffs, and their commitment to continue working to prevent their imposition on Canadian goods. They agreed on the need for a firm response to any tariffs, including on aluminum and steel,” it was stated by the prime minister’s office.
The Prime Minister and the Premier agreed to continue working together on these and other issues of importance to Ontarians and Canadians, said the Prime Minister’s office in today’s news release.
