There’s a return to training for the Pacific FC professional soccer club it was announced today on the first day of Phase 3 in the Restart BC economic recovery plan.

This is good news for the Pacific FC team which is one of the many sports team that has been sidelined by the self-isolation and physical distancing as required during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pacific FC has received approval from provincial and municipal health authorities and the Canadian Premier League (CPL) to return to training.

The club will begin to hold voluntary workouts for players at the Island Training Centre in Westhills starting June 1, it was stated in a news release today.

Phased approach to training:

“As part of the CPL’s training protocol we have adopted a phased approach to training that will begin with non-contact individual or small group workouts and will allow the club to provide a secure, sanitary and controlled environment that ensures adherence to safety protocols and physical distancing measures for players and staff,” it was stated by Pacific FC.

“The priority of these protocols is the safety and the well-being of players, technical staff and employees, as well as their families, when they return to training,” say Pacific FC organizers.

Aiming for a 2020 season:

This training is obviously in line with a hope that the 2020 will proceed in some adapted format with physical distancing and no live audience.

Last week, is became known that the CPL is working on a plan for a 2020 season which will align with Public Health Officer orders. CPL and Pacific FC say that they “continue to monitor all input, guidance and direction provided by all levels of government and all football governing bodies”.
