As October unfolds, so does a local campaign in Langford to help promote businesses in the bustling, business-oriented west shore municipality.

The official October 1 launch date of the business directory portal at www.tasteoflangford.com has arrived.

The City of Langford has unveiled their new Taste of Langford campaign in support of local businesses, with the theme being an extension of the high-energy I Am Langford campaign. Both initiatives are part of keeping businesses open and afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic which has impacted the economy everywhere on Vancouver Island and around BC.

Promoting local restaurants, with options: dine in or order-and-pickup.

The tourism and hospitality sector has been hit particularly hard during the pandemic. Taste of Langford fronts its promotion with an emphasis on local dining, both new options as well as tried-and-true familiar favourites. Participating businesses will introduce a unique dish, value-add or discount, available during the campaign.

Beyond restaurants:

In addition to the food-service industry sector, the Taste of Langford portal consolidates the marketing presence of about 300 businesses under one digital roof.

The City recognizes the struggle that the business community has endured throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. While doing what was necessary to keep their staff members and customers safe and healthy, many businesses have faced significant setbacks and challenges in the process.

Municipal leadership:

During the first phase of the pandemic, Langford Mayor Stew Young and city council, supported by staff, acted quickly to ensure that local business were supported. A variety of free physical distancing and other related floor decals were made available, face masks and shields were sold at cost, and a new patio bylaw was passed which allows businesses to expand their square footage outdoors.

The Taste of Langford campaign is one more way for the City to help local businesses through these unprecedented times.

Directory of local businesses:

“I encourage everyone to support our local Langford businesses and restaurants in any way you can,” says Mayor Young. “Langford’s thriving business community has grown significantly over the years, with many unique and vibrant eateries now calling our city home”.

Participating businesses are listed at TasteOfLangford.com, which includes details on featured promotions. Everyone is invited to visit the website and follow the City on Instagram @CityOfLangford for the latest campaign updates.

Normally newspapers and local media help promote businesses, as a way to fund the function of journalism for the community. In these unusual times, the city has stepped into this marketing area, offering free exposure for all the business participants.

The campaign runs from October 1 to December 21 of this year.
