Personal measures for protecting yourself from becoming infected with COVID-19… “learn these and keep following them to keep ourselves, communities and families safe”, says Provincial Health Officer Dr Bonnie Henry.

“That includes frequent hand washing, always stay home when ill, maintain safe distances, and keep your number of contacts low — especially if there are people in your household who are at risk — fewer faces and bigger spaces. We know these are our foundations for protection and path forward,” said Dr Henry during her COVID-19 media update on June 16.

Scientists and public health officials are learning more about the COVID-19 virus all the time. But there is still no effective treatment and still no vaccine. A vaccine that is developed tested in human clinical trials, mass-manufactured, distributed and administered is a long ways off…. probably not well in 2021 based on practical timelines alone.

There are currently 2,756 test-positive cases of COVID-19 in BC, with 172 people still actively ill with the disease. Of the people still sick with COVID-19, there are 11 people in hospital (five of those in ICU). | More from Dr Henry’s June 16 report.
