Due to the dry hot weather, the Fire Danger Rating has being elevated to EXTREME within the District of Sooke.

This notice was posted on the District website around 4 pm today Tuesday July 28 : https://sooke.ca/fire-danger-rating-now-extreme-campfires-prohibited/

What’s restricted:

All open air burning including campfires, backyard burning and beach fires are prohibited within the District of Sooke until further notice. Propane fire rings are still permitted and are a great alternative to campfires. Please recreate safely and responsibly!

Extremely dry forest fuels and the fire risk is very serious. New fires will start easily, spread rapidly, and challenge fire suppression efforts. General forest activities may be restricted, including open burning, industrial activities and campfires.
